CHASE
Online gender-based hate speech has catastrophic consequences, fueling physical violence, victimisation and often leads to hate crimes. CHASE responds to the EU challenge of tackling online gender-based hate speech, which thrives on online mass media.
The overall objective of CHASE is to establish and put into practice in Cyprus, Italy, Greece and France, a comprehensive mechanism for online media to effectively detect and respond to cases of online gender-based hate speech.

Research on Legal Frameworks
Analyse existing laws and response mechanisms related to online hate speech, with a focus on gender-based cases.
Identification of Hate Speech Patterns
Map and classify different forms of online gender-based hate speech, including subtle and hidden patterns.
Development of ICT Tools
Create innovative tools to detect and monitor online gender-based hate speech.
Design of a Comprehensive Response Mechanism
Establish practical procedures and protocols for countering online gender-based hate speech.
Code of Conduct for Online Media
Draft, promote and implement a voluntary Code of Conduct to guide media platforms in combating online gender-based violence.
Awareness Raising and Dissemination
Conduct campaigns through online media targeting users and other media, alongside project-wide dissemination activities.

VISION
Our vision is to develop an online environment where media platforms operate responsibly and safely, free from gender-based hate speech and discrimination based on gender identity, creating inclusive spaces for all.
Our mission is to support online media platforms, professionals and human rights organisations in detecting, understanding and combatting gender-based online hate speech. Through collaboration with NGOs, media experts, research institutions and IT partners across Belgium, Cyprus, France, Greece and Italy, CHASE develops an innovative tools to identify, standardise and counter diverse patterns of online gender-related hate speech.

This website serves as the central hub for the Voluntary Code of Conduct on Combating Online Gender-Based Violence, developed by the CHASE partnership under the coordination of CSI.
